home business social networkingSocial Networking is extremely popular right now. It brings worlds together with a few mouse clicks and a keyboard…or even your phone! We can build friendships with people thousands of miles away. Social Networking is also something that can also be beneficial for businesses.

Tips to Use Social Networking for Business

Twitter.com. Twitter is one of the most popular forms of social networking. It is like having an IM with the world. You can use Twitter to promote your business, self or service. The key though is to be active and unselfish. You cannot make it all about you. Relationships must be built. People on Twitter are like the rest of the Internet world…they despise spammers! Do not DM links or self promos. Save that for your live tweets. I would suggest 1 self promo tweet for every 7-10 non business tweets.

Ning and others like it. Ning.com is a social networking platform that is usually categorized in different niches. For example, you may find a network for writers. Writers will go there and discuss their crafts and share what they are doing. The cool thing about places like ning is that each “member” of the network gets their own page. On their page they can have links and other self promoting things for their business, product or service. Members also have their own blogs that other members can come and read. Again, you must be careful not to be labeled a spammer. Join the community and build relationships. Stay in your niche and never make it all about you.

Facebook. You can get similar results with MySpace. However, for a more professional look and mature audience, Facebook is the best choice for business promotion. Create a personal page and be sure and add your link. Find people you know and people to network with. You can also create a page specifically for your business. Facebook is another way that you have a platform to promote you and what you do. As with anything though, do not be a spammer. Build relationships.

Blogging. Blogging can also be a form of social networking if you are doing it correctly. You can use your blog to promote what you do 100%. Make it interesting and fun though. Build friendships with other bloggers. Link exchange. Comment….no spamming…actual involvement type comments on other blogs. Before you know it you will build a readership and clients for your business. Bloggers are very loyal to their own. If you do it right and make it less about you and more about building relationships, you are more likely t find success with blogging.

There are also various linkage sites and many more ways to get in the world of Social Networking. Google it. The point is to get involved. Participate and build relationships. Oh, and NEVER spam.

One last thing I would like to mention…all the social networking types listed above is FREE! You can join free and start your own for free. F-R-E-E! What better way to promote your business, product or service??

How I Use Article Marketing to Boost My Link Popularity

article marketingWriting articles is by far the best way to increase your link popularity in the search engines. It is also one of the most important, easy and effective tools of viral marketing. Let’s have a look at how this works and why it’s so effective.

To increase your link popularity, you have two options. You can take the slow and tedious route of manually exchanging links with other sites, or you can write articles and submit them to article directories. Manually exchanging links with other websites will take many months to increase your search engine rankings.

I write content to boost my link popularity in the search engines. Content is king as always. I write articles and submit them to high traffic article directories. These are quality article authored through my own expertise related to my site. Search engine positioning happens to be a very popular topic. Getting article directories to post my articles along with with my site’s URL(s) is very easy. Over time, websites publishers will pick up my articles from these high traffic article directories and use them on their sites.

Most article directories will allow you to include at least one website URL in the signature file or resource box. The resource box located at the end of each article is the primary reason for you to write and publish your articles. By including your site’s URL in the resource box, you are effectively increasing your link popularity in the search engines. If your articles are well written and useful, they will also be pick up by website publishers who need content for their sites.

Now, you do the math. If you submit to 100 article directories a week times four articles a month that’s 400 articles a month. Google will love you. Google has these three factors: content, quality and one way links. Within a short period of time, those links will boost your link popularity and drive your site to the top of the search results for your targeted keyword phrases.

A higher ranking in the search engines means alot of things. To a Webmaster, it means a move in the right direction, pure, unadulterated achievement or alot of money in the bank (Hmm, feel good?). To Google, link popularity means importance and relevancy. It also means your site is a valuable and viable resource.

Article marketing will generate tons of traffic to your site, as your articles are published and syndicated across the world. Traffic to your site will pick up speed as you submit and publish more articles. You will also enhance your search engine positioning just by increasing your link popularity in the search engines.

You can get started right away. Simply write a high quality article related to your website or commission someone to do this for you. You can find a ghost writer for a reasonable amount of money by posting an ad in the “Gigs” section on Craiglist.com. You don’t have to live in the city you post in. Post in the larger cities to get better results, but be prepared to get tons of emails.

I hope this advise helps you. Gook luck in the search engine positioning campaign.

Making Room For Marketing In Your Business Budget

As a business new to marketing, you may say you say you know where your money goes and you don’t need it all written down to keep up with it. But marketing is tricky – as with all plans, your results must be both achievable and measurable. You need to be able to track a return on your investment. And you may say you spend enough time on it – but if your business isn’t growing, it may be time to spend a little dough to keep it moving.

Unless you have specific objectives built around your strategies, your marketing plan may never be achieved properly. Marketing requires specific resources and you need to communicate these with your staff (if you have staff) or your outsourcing partners. You will be shocked at what the smaller expenses (such as paper, mailings, and stamps) add up to. Take the total you spend on just one extra mailing each month, multiply it by 12 for months in a year and multiply the result by 5 to represent 5 years – and then subtract it from the results. Is your marketing really as effective as it should be? Is it worth the resources you have been using?

When you start to implement a marketing plan for the first time, it’s best to start with a small sampling and wait for results first. It is true that doing something is better than doing nothing – but don’t overwhelm your staff or your budget by attempting several new marketing methods that you are unable to track – for example, if you direct traffic to your website, make sure to target each campaign to a different page or product to track your results.

If it is overwhelming to create several marketing activities, make a small but definite commitment to add at least one new marketing tactic a week. For example, set aside an hour every day to make cold calls or send emails to your prospects. Add one service listing to Craig’s List every week. Send “Thank You” emails to your customers once a month and let them know that you’ve added a new product to your product line. And, I issue you this challenge. Keep track of every penny you spend on marketing for one month – could you have afforded more? Did the amount of time and money you spent seem worth the effort? Set some specific long term and short term goals for making more money – and allocating more money to your marketing endeavors. There are no wrong answers here – just remember, it always takes money to make money. If it’s important to you, then it’s important period.

Some suggestions for powering your marketing strategies
follow:

  • Make room for marketing in your business budget by cutting other expenses.
  • Barter expertise and skills with other businesses you may network with (LinkedIn contacts, Chamber of Commerce, etc.)
  • Cut expenses for services you rarely use. Do you really need call waiting on your business phone line? How about that subscription to Entrepreneur online?
  • Don’t discount the power of low-cost and free marketing activities-such as online forum postings, ezine advertisements, article marketing, and blog advertising

3 Reasons Your Service Based Business Needs an Internet Presence

create professional websiteby Erica Brooks

When a potential client is looking for help with something and needs the services of an expert, where is the first place they’ll turn? Will they ask a friend? Maybe. Will they try to remember where they’ve seen someone offering this service? Possibly. Will they turn to the yellow pages? Not very likely.

More and more people are turning to the internet, Google and online to find products and services, even if they are something they can find just down the street. You can’t afford not to have an internet presence if you are a service provider.

If you provide a service such as event planning, wedding consulting, life coaching, or any other service there are so many benefits to building yourself a website that sells your services.

Here are just a few reasons why you should have an internet presence:

1. Your potential clients are out there looking for information. If you can provide it to them they will come back and they will also refer others to you. You can give potential clients a real taste of what your business is about without having to spend too much time with those who may not really be interested

2. Your online presence sells for you when you’re not there. Instead of having to answer phones all the time, your website can answer many of the questions and objectives your potential clients may have.

3. You can take payment right away. If you set your website up to take payments you can have clients paying you quickly and easily without having to wait for them to mail you a check or get them on the phone to take their credit card payment.

You may be thinking that you just don’t have the time to put into learning how to build your own website and figure out the marketing to put your service business online. Well, the great thing about the internet is that there are many ways you can get a website up quickly and without too much time invested. You’ll likely spend more time researching the ways you can build your site then you will actually spend building it.

If you choose wisely you could have a website up in a matter of days. Look for a good website designer to help you or you may even want to choose a website builder to start with until you’re comfortable enough to hire someone.

Building your business online and marketing your website can take up a lot of time but you can also incorporate that into your overall marketing strategy. Do what works for you. Maybe you only have 1 hour per week. You’ll need to decide what to spend that time on based on where you’ll get the most return for that time investment. Do a little testing to see what gets you the most results and build on that.

You’ll want to set up a system for collecting leads and following up with them through your website. One of the most important things to note is that not everyone who visits your site will buy from you on first visit so you’ll want to start collecting their email addresses in order to follow up via an email autoresponder or newsletter. Systems like Aweber are perfect for this.

No matter how you choose to build your website or what online marketing strategies you choose to focus on the important thing is that you get started now. Business on the internet grows stronger every day and you don’t want to be one of the last to bring your business up to date and on to the internet.

Five Hot Tips to Build Your Email List

article marketing

by Ms. Liz

You’ve heard it said a thousand times – the money is in the list! It’s true- you need a good strong email list if your marketing efforts are going to pay off.
The question is – what can you do to build that list? There are specific steps you can take to increase the subscribers to your list. Some take a little time, some take just a minute and pay off over time.

If you’re ready to start building your email list, don’t wait any longer! Start putting these ideas into practice today and watch your list grow like wildfire.

1. If you want subscribers, ask for them!
Put an opt-in form on every page of your website and your blog. Make it easy to find and easy to fill out. At this point, the only information you really need is their name and their email address. If your form requires subscribers to include their physical address and telephone number, they will be less inclined to sign up. By keeping it simple, you encourage people to opt-in.

2. Offer an incentive to encourage sign-up.
People hesitate to sign up for email lists for a couple of reasons. Most of us have busy inboxes and worry about adding to yet more email.

Other times, people just hesitate to share their email address without a little incentive. By offering a free gift, such as a download, you let them know you consider their email valuable enough to be worth something in exchange.

You can offer a free special report, an MP3 or special access to a teleseminar or membership site. The point is to give them something of real value in exchange for allowing you to contact them with your emails.

Providing an incentive is one of the most successful tips to encourage people to opt-in to your list. Once you have their email address, don’t abuse it with a barrage of sales pitches. Instead, blend your sales pitch with helpful tips, advice, interesting news and perhaps a little humor. That will go a long way in keeping your subscribers on board and interested.

3. Spend some time optimizing your website to increase traffic.
Once you have added a sign-up form on every page of your website, increased traffic will lead to more subscribers to your email list.

By investing some time into search engine optimization, you will raise your site’s page rank and draw more targeted visitors to your homepage. If SEO isn’t your thing, it is well worth your investment to hire someone to do it for you. There are plenty of excellent SEO professionals available on the Internet. Search around and ask for recommendations to find one who has experience. (Hint: their own ranking in the search engine results page is an excellent indicator of how well they know their stuff!)

4. Don’t forget about social medial marketing!
Social media websites are some of the hottest places to reach prospects. By engaging in regular, relationship building social media efforts, you will also increase traffic to your website- and subscribers to your email list.

Sites like Facebook and Twitter allow you to post a link in your profile or bio, so link to your free download opt-in page to add subscribers to your list.

5. Joint Venture opportunities
These are great ways to build your list fast. However, choose your partners carefully. You’ll have much greater success with partners that have a reputation for integrity, authority and a large following.

Building your email list doesn’t have to be a chore. These five suggestions will leverage the time and effort you put into growing your email list with lots of potential customers and consequently more sales.

Send Personal Note Cards Instead

What can be better than sending handwritten notes to your target clients to make your marketing campaign more personal? With printed note cards and custom envelopes, you are sure to make a positive impression that can help you build a lasting relationship with your clients.

In this day and age where it is easy to communicate with emails, writing even simple thank you note cards have become obsolete. Instead of personalized notecards, many people have transferred to emails that are easy, fast, and the cheapest form of communication. Email has become the most common form of getting your message across that writing special messages in note cards are now easily forgotten. What was an endearing hobby and passion now became something of a chore. Once considered as a special gesture is now left to those who have nothing else to do with their time.

The ease of using email to convey your thoughts made it very popular. Nevertheless, precisely because of the popularity of emails, sending personalized notecards will make your marketing campaign more effective. Why? Because the gesture of creating a personalized ad can stand out from amongst the very common email ads. Sending handwritten note cards can make you unique and different from the rest. It will help you provide your target clients with a very strong impression of your company.

The 4.25 x 5.5 personalized note cards can be effective marketing tools especially with a pre-printed message. Depending on what you need, a print note card can both be folded, plain and open, or with envelopes. The more popular layout is one with a plain logo on one side and a blank surface on the back. With this kind of note card, you can customize your message according to its recipient.

A print note card also sets you apart in an industry where a simple gesture of gratitude goes a long way to show your target clients your appreciation for them. A handwritten message particularly sends a thoughtful message because the recipient knows that the person who sent it gave his or her time, effort and energy to the card. In business, expressing gratitude helps remind your target clients of a good service rendered, which then results to more sales and better ROIs.

The key is to keep your communication with your clients and prospects fresh. Set aside a few days and make it a habit to send your clients with thank you cards to express your gratitude. Utilizing these cards to complement your other marketing collaterals can go a long way in opening opportunities for you to provide better service, as well as increase your sales and profits in return.

How to Optimise a Web Page

In SEO you need to work on each page of your website individually as these can all appear in the search engines. You will need to take care of both the onsite and offsite factors for every page on your website. The aim of this article is to give you a few tips in order to target your campaign effectively.

In this article we will focus mainly on Google as in the UK it accounts for at least 80% of searches so if you are nowhere on Google then you are really nowhere at all. Below are the basics of what you should be doing:

1. Title Tag
This is the title to any web page and appears at the top of a browser when people come to your site. You use this to tell people the page they are on and what it is about. This is important because Google also reads text and what you use here will tell Google what your page is about also. It is vitally important that you use your main keyword in the title of your web page.

2. Heading Tags
These are the headings that appear on your website and show readers what each section of your text is about. Again as with the title tag Google will read this text to get an idea of the important topics on your web page. It is also important to use your keyword in your headers as well. This will allow Google to know that this word is important to the content of your web page.

3. Highlighted Text
When you write your content there are certain words or phrases that you will want to draw people’s attention to and these will be in either bold or italic text. As with other things Google will also read these words as important so it is a good idea to have at least on instance of your keyword in either bold or italic.

4. Your Text
It is important that the rest of the text on your page matches up to the title and headers you have used. For that reason you should ensure your keyword appears in the first 3 paragraphs of your web page text. It does not need to be loads of times, as little as 1% can be ok and do not go over 5% a this will seem unnatural. Google will read this text and it will confirm to it that your web page is about the keyword you have chosen.

5. Meta Tags
A lot is said about meta tags because once upon a time they were really important. Now they are virtually redundant. The only one that counts for anything is the meta description as this is the text Google will use as the description of your site in the search results. For that reason you should include your keywords and make sure it will draw people in.

6. Use text links
When you link to other pages in your website from the one you are working on make sure you use text links as Google will read these. If you can include your keyword in the text that is even better as that will add more weight to your argument.

7. Get Links to your Page
You need to focus on getting as many links to your web page as possible to show Google that it is really important. When you are doing this, make sure they are text links and that they include your keyword in the text. This will again show Google that everything is consistent and this really is what your web page is about.

8. Number of Pages
One important factor to ranking a web page is the number of pages there are on the website in total. The more there are the more interesting Google thinks the website is to the user, so keep adding useful pages of content to keep Google happy.

When doing SEO, keep up to date with what is going on and what works for other people. The more tips you can get on what to do the better.

Marketing from the Heart

Does the thought of marketing your business create a knot in your stomach? Does it conjure up thoughts of pushy salespeople, hours of phone soliciting, or stacks of monthly mailings? Marketing doesn’t have to be a business owner’s nightmare; and you don’t need a college degree in that field to do it. Depending on the type of business, you don’t even need a set strategy. As a matter of fact you can make up the rules as you go along!

As business owners many of us cringe at the thought of promoting our business. After all, we are offering a particular product or service and that is where our strength lies. We are knowledgeable about what we offer, not about how to offer it. Trying to promote your business can be mentally and physically draining, not to mention time consuming. This is especially true if you are using a method that doesn’t seem natural. Yet, visibility and exposure is key to attracting customers and building a sound business foundation. Is there a way to market that is actually fun and enjoyable? I hear that question a lot and I can honestly say that there is if you market from the heart. When coaching my clients around the subject of marketing it doesn’t make sense to start talking strategy. They aren’t marketing majors and they are pretty shy about stepping out there to gain exposure. My clients know their product or service inside and out but they don’t know how to tell others about it. That’s why marketing from the heart resonates so well with them.

Marketing from the heart means that you break the stereotypical mold and do it your way! Forget all the “shoulds” you ever learned about marketing and do what comes naturally. If you are a people person how about setting up a booth at a trade show? You’ll meet people, network, and get to promote your business. Do you love to talk and educate people? Hold workshops, presentations, or classes and inform people about your latest product or service. This can be done at colleges, libraries, bookstores, or for professional groups.

I love to write and have been very successful using this method to market my coaching practice. Are you a natural born writer? Start writing articles about what you do and submit them to local magazines, newspapers, or online venues. This will get your name out there and will attract potential customers. If you enjoy helping people then volunteer your services or donate your product. People will get to know you and will tell others about your business. I am a certified personal trainer as well as a life coach. I spend one day a week volunteering my time to teach fitness classes to at-risk youth. As a result, the person in charge of the facility is now interested in hiring me to teach the staff.

During one of my recent book signings, the manager of the bookstore liked the way I interacted with the customers. He has invited me back at the end of the summer to host a group-coaching workshop. This will bring customers into his store and it will also allow me to promote my business. All I did during the book signing was chat about the book and answer questions. I was having fun and it was all very natural.

If you enjoy communicating via the Internet then post advertisements or announcements in ezines and on message boards. Have some fun sending online or local press releases to announce what you’re doing and what you’ve been involved in. By typing in key words on the Internet, you can locate web sites that will circulate your press releases for free. By sending press releases I landed five media interviews in local papers, four online interviews, and one radio interview. Again, this opened many doors for me and attracted potential clients.

This is all marketing from the heart. Doing what you love to attract customers, network, gain exposure, and build a strong business foundation. In addition, this will rarely cost you any money. Allow yourself to feel inspired by doing what comes naturally. If you are doing what you love and having fun at it, how can it be a chore? Make up your own rules, do what inspires you, and watch your business flourish!

15 Tips For Better Advertising Results

by Andrew Ballenthin

The following tips are meant to give inspiration or a different perspective on what you are doing now. Each one can be used on its own or researched in greater depth to understand the art and science that go into making it effective. In the end, the more you customize the following points the more the your sales will increase.

1. Price Point – Play with pricing to understand what number yields the highest sale. Too high and a greater number of customers will decline. Too low and you’ll strain cash flow. Dedication to finding the right number that generates substantial profitable sales has huge pay-offs.

2. Be Creative But Relevant – Your materials need to get attention and stand out from the noise of other advertisers. However, if the message is too creative and the contents don’t match your ad you will turn customers away due to lack of credibility.

3. Make It Easy To Find The Offer – Make the offer prominent, clear, and bold. Don’t make customers read or think too much. Customers lose attention easily due to the massive amounts of daily information in society. Keep it simple.

4. Do Not Overload With Information – You may have a lot to say but too much information can cause readers to give up. Saying a few dynamic things that gets the phone to ring is more important than giving away all your secrets or reasons why you are the best.

5. Consider Pricing A Popular Item Low – If there are a few items your business or industry are known for price them low to attract interest and high volume sales. Gaining new customers for future sales with be worth multiples of the little you gave up.

6. Sell Bundled Products — This is a very common technique in grocery stores and pharmacies. However, whether you are selling shoes, software, industrial products or something else, this technique can create a higher perceived value and increase cash flow.

7. Use Catch Short Headlines For All Advertising – Get people to stop and read. If you peak interest and can get someone to take a few moment to know what you’re about your opening the door for a future customer.

8. Note an offer expiry date – Stir a sense of urgency. If customers see a great promotion but don’t feel pressure to act now they’ll just put it off until another time.

9. Note “Limited Supply” - This is a variation of #8. If you’re offering the product/service at the right price create demand by limiting availability to those who really want the product/service feel the pressure to act now.

10. Use Testimonials – A printed testimonial has a greater perceived level of credibility then a marketer making promises.

11. Reduce Large Ticket Prices To A Daily Value – Showing that buying a new pool, software, interior design, etc as “What you would spend on a cheap lunch every day – only $4.99″ helps people realize they’re already spending that much already and the service offered is affordable.

12. Avoid Using A Percent Discount Unless It’s Big – If you’re going to offer less than 20% minimum show how many dollars off. People like to know how much money they’re putting back in their pocket without guessing.

13. Use Short Sentences - Keep words down to 6 – 12. The faster you can make the point the better.

14. Be Positive – Showing any form of negativity may scare people into taking action but will leave a stigma with your business. If you use negative advertising too often you’ll be stuck with the “Boy That Cried Wolf” syndrome – people just won’t see your points as dramatic anymore.

15. Show Solutions To Problems – Describe scenarios in your advertising where people have a problem your product service can fix. This increases the value of what you significantly and helps customers relate to why they should take action.

How to Write a Great Article to Market your Website

Writing articles is far more than simply throwing a bunch of words together. This article gives you useful tips to help you write successful articles.

Choose a hot topic.
How do you choose a hot topic? The answer is research. It is important to take the time to do a little research before you start to write your article. Research to establish what the target market will be for your article. Go onto the Internet, research, observe and even spy to find out and understand about your target market. What are the hot topics? What issues are being discussed in forums, in niche ezines and popular E books?

Frequently visit article directories and content sites. These websites have up to date articles on many popular topics. Try some of these article directories:

Choose a dynamic title. The article title is your article headline. It is important to create a headline that sparks interest for the reader to read more. Consider these article titles: Losing Weight, How to Lose Weight, Tips for Weight Loss

These titles do not have a lot of punch or create much interest for the reader. Think of your title as a classified ad. If your article headline is crammed on a web page with one hundred others, what will make it stand out to the reader?

To be effective in article internet marketing, you should write articles around the major keywords of the content on your website or blog. These should be interesting enough to entice the reader to visit your site for more information.

An example of this might be to write a ‘How-To‘ article. This is effective as many people go on the web to find information on how to do something. So write an article about your keyword in the style of an article describing how to do something.

Articles should be targeted to the audience who is looking for and needing the information that you are writing about. The preparation and research that you do before the article will help you to answer the questions people are asking. This will then compel them to visit your website to find more solutions to the problems they are trying to solve.

“Close The Sale“ with a resource box. The resource box appears at the end of your article. It‘s the last thing that your reader sees. The resource box is your opportunity to encourage the reader to take action. Work on the resource box to create a compelling desire in the reader to visit your website, sign up for your newsletter, claim their free gift–be very creative!

Promote your article. There are many ways that you can promote your article. You can submit it to the several hundred article directories, free content sites, article syndication services and article announcement lists. Look out for and create a list of newsletters in your target market. Email each ezines publisher a copy of your latest article. Newsletter and ezine publishers are always looking for new articles to publish to their subscribers. Many ezine publishers have thousands of subscribers. What a great opportunity to get known by many readers in your target market.

Now all there is left to do, is for you to start writing. Use these tips and create great articles which will get spread all over the Internet and create traffic back to your website.
