In SEO you need to work on each page of your website individually as these can all appear in the search engines. You will need to take care of both the onsite and offsite factors for every page on your website. The aim of this article is to give you a few tips in order to target your campaign effectively.

In this article we will focus mainly on Google as in the UK it accounts for at least 80% of searches so if you are nowhere on Google then you are really nowhere at all. Below are the basics of what you should be doing:

1. Title Tag
This is the title to any web page and appears at the top of a browser when people come to your site. You use this to tell people the page they are on and what it is about. This is important because Google also reads text and what you use here will tell Google what your page is about also. It is vitally important that you use your main keyword in the title of your web page.

2. Heading Tags
These are the headings that appear on your website and show readers what each section of your text is about. Again as with the title tag Google will read this text to get an idea of the important topics on your web page. It is also important to use your keyword in your headers as well. This will allow Google to know that this word is important to the content of your web page.

3. Highlighted Text
When you write your content there are certain words or phrases that you will want to draw people’s attention to and these will be in either bold or italic text. As with other things Google will also read these words as important so it is a good idea to have at least on instance of your keyword in either bold or italic.

4. Your Text
It is important that the rest of the text on your page matches up to the title and headers you have used. For that reason you should ensure your keyword appears in the first 3 paragraphs of your web page text. It does not need to be loads of times, as little as 1% can be ok and do not go over 5% a this will seem unnatural. Google will read this text and it will confirm to it that your web page is about the keyword you have chosen.

5. Meta Tags
A lot is said about meta tags because once upon a time they were really important. Now they are virtually redundant. The only one that counts for anything is the meta description as this is the text Google will use as the description of your site in the search results. For that reason you should include your keywords and make sure it will draw people in.

6. Use text links
When you link to other pages in your website from the one you are working on make sure you use text links as Google will read these. If you can include your keyword in the text that is even better as that will add more weight to your argument.

7. Get Links to your Page
You need to focus on getting as many links to your web page as possible to show Google that it is really important. When you are doing this, make sure they are text links and that they include your keyword in the text. This will again show Google that everything is consistent and this really is what your web page is about.

8. Number of Pages
One important factor to ranking a web page is the number of pages there are on the website in total. The more there are the more interesting Google thinks the website is to the user, so keep adding useful pages of content to keep Google happy.

When doing SEO, keep up to date with what is going on and what works for other people. The more tips you can get on what to do the better.
